Table Showers (or also called ‘Body Scrub/Wash Massage’) provide for a truly invigorating and relaxing experience. Better yet, aside from a time of pampering, they bring a lot more to the ‘table’ in the form of health benefits.
While many people may have heard of table showers, many are unfamiliar with what exactly they are, or what they can expect to take place during one.
It’s our hope to help bring to your attention the details so you will feel comfortable getting one at your local massage spa. We think you’ll see it’s well worth it, and you may even wonder what took you so long to catch on!
Where do table showers take place?
Most massage spas tend to have individual/private shower rooms where you receive your table shower. Setups can differ from one business to another, but virtually all will have a massage table in the center of the room that has been fitted with a waterproof covering (usually plastic). Fresh towels are placed on the table before each session for hygienic reasons.
Some table shower rooms feature a number of shower heads directly above the table that give the recipient a water based massage or cascading rain effect. Others will feature hand-held type shower heads which your masseuse will use for your session.
What do I wear during this type of treatment?
During table showers, you typically are not wearing anything, but state laws usually require that you are covered at all times throughout the duration of your session. This is the same as most massage therapy regulations, except instead of being covered with a sheet, your private areas are draped with a towel.
What does the table shower treatment consist of?
This service provides a great to help keep your skin healthy and clean because you are usually scrubbed from head to toe (except for the obvious areas!) with an exfoliation sponge/cloth or a cleansing body wash/scrub. Exfoliation is the process of removing the dead skin cells from your body to expose the fresh, ‘younger’ skin below. This helps prevent acne, ingrown hairs, and improves the overall appearance and health of your skin.
After you lay face down on the table, your masseuse will shower your body with water set to the temperature that is set to your liking. Next comes the body scrub down using gentle massage-like strokes. This helps to not only cleanse your skin but helps increase your blood circulation and induce a state of relaxation. Once finished, the final rinse comes. Most spas that offer table showers will also shampoo your hair if you request. Why not?
On average, most table showers last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.
